It's been kinda quiet on the Spellmaking blog of late - mainly because I've been madly working on an SF short story that has grown and grown and become a 12,000 word novelette. That's nearly finished, though and I've reached the point where I can move on.
I've also been beavering away with Hedge Witch. I'm now working with my editor at Morrigan (see what I did there? I innocently slipped in the phrase "my editor"; I'll be saying "my publisher" soon, you'll see), polishing and tweaking the manuscript. For some reason I really enjoy editing (although it can be painful if massive changes are required). I guess it's just the thrill of having someone else take such a close interest. I can tell already the novel is going to be improved no end when we're done.
Oh, and we're getting closer to having some cover art, too. I'll obviously let you know when it's ready. I've been fully involved in the design process, which is wonderful. Although it has also brought home to me how difficult it is to create a good cover. Fortunately, the person I'm working with at my publisher has been hugely patient and constructive.
Oh, and I heard today that Stupefying Stories have accepted an SF flash story of mine for publication. Welcome news on a Monday morning ...

ReplyDeleteCongratulations for the story acceptance, Simon.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm excited to hear that Hedge Witch is on the way. I've always liked the sound of it. Is there a date yet? And I'm curious about that cover art too.
When less blogging is a result of more writing, that's a good thing! And well done on, well, everything, sir. Can't wait to get me a copy of Hedge Witch -- and I've been trying to break into Stupefying Stories, so congratulations on that, too!
ReplyDeleteThomas - It's going to be next year. Maybe Easter time, but nothing definite just yet.
ReplyDeleteMilo - Thanks. I'm sure you'll be appearing there some time real soon.

Way to slip in "my publisher" Simon. Well done there :) The editing process is rewarding when you're working with someone who makes your book better. I look forward to the cover reveal!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Old Kitty!
ReplyDeleteKaren - You noticed! I thought I was being subtle.
Congratulations on the story acceptance! :)
ReplyDeleteREALLY looking forward to Hedge Witch.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Golden Eagle.
ReplyDeleteDonna: me too!
Congrats on the sale. I've worked with editors from magazines to tweak some of my stories. It's always been a great experience. I imagine it's exponentially more exciting working on a novel.
ReplyDeleteJeff - Thanks, and yes, although also a great deal more work!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the acceptance, Simon
ReplyDeleteThanks, Cate!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the story acceptance! And isn't it exciting when you can say "my editor" and "my publisher". Someday I hope to be able to say that, too. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Precy.
