The Blogging From A to Z April Challenge: M is for Megrim

Saturday, 14 April 2012

My posts in the The Blogging From A to Z April Challenge are all about interesting words. Words that are weird, intriguing, poetic or just plain cool.

M is for Megrim

A "megrim" is an archaic term for a migraine: bad headaches that are often associated with nausea and disturbed vision. I think I like the word because it sounds like it's a mythical creature: some sort of demonic being that lurks in the shadows and inflicts pain and suffering. Beware the Megrim! And, yes, I do suffer from migraines myself ...

Oh, and it's also a sort of fish.

  8. Very cool sounding word. It sounds medieval, or like the name of a metal band.

  11. I totally would have guessed it was a mythical creature! Or some scientific phenomenon, like "the shuttle was thrown off course when it was sucked into a fourth dimension megrim."
