The Genehunter novel has never had a proper, professional cover (i.e. one not done by me) - until now. Here's the new cover for the book in all its tech noir glory.
I have to say I'm thrilled with it. What do you think? Does it make you want to dive in to the world of Simms and his moral grey area high-tech thrills?

I really like it, Simon. My only quibble is that I think 'THE' would sit more comfortably on the left.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sue - someone else said that too. I can always get it shifted over...
DeleteThere's a reason for it - if you put it on the right, one's eye naturally continues off the page because we are programmed to read left to right. If there isn't a really good reason to do it - ie for balance or to align with something that draws it together - it is better to stay logical and in the comfort zone. It's basic design sense.
DeleteThanks for the input and the explanation. Fascinating. I'm going to try it the other way around and see, but I do thing the "The" on the right gives the composition an overall balance. Do you think people even see "The"? My eye is just drawn to "Genehunter"...
DeleteI like it. The face adds a whole other dimension, and I like the city-scape at the bottom. Still, I think you do pretty good covers too.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Erin. I do like doing covers and I'm getting better at them - but blending together multiple images like that and making it look seamless still eludes me.
DeleteKeep the "The" on the right, it's different. And I really like the cover, congrats!
ReplyDeleteExcellent - thanks, Lyn. And for your comments on Twitter etc.
DeleteExcellent, thanks. I think it captures Simms perfectly...
ReplyDeleteLookin' good, amigo!
ReplyDeleteThankee! Just need Amazon et al to update their records and the world can see it...
DeleteI think it looks great! Love the colors. And, for what it's worth, I didn't even notice the "The" at all.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Madeline - much appreciated.
DeleteI like it -- the mood is set very well. We know immediately from the images that "The Genehunter" is an adult, futuristic, high-tech story. But with the prominent face, we also know that it should mainly be about a human character instead of just technology. Also, to me, the blue tones also suggest a "cool" and "cerebral" story, as opposed to a "firey" and "action-packed" one, so I'm expecting a read that is going to trigger some intriguing ideas instead of just a fast-paced shoot-em-up.
ReplyDeleteBut I probably read too much into it. Let's just go with a basic -- "Nice cover, Simon! It looks cool!" ;)
I think that nails it! You've basically hit every note I was trying for so that's great to know.
DeleteDid you model the face!!?!??! Fantastic!! Take care
ReplyDeletex
Oh no, Simms is a careworn wreck - whereas I'm ... oh wait, I see what you mean.
DeleteOooh he has a face! That's very awesome :)
ReplyDeleteGlad you like it, Rhonda.
