The Very Inspiring Blogger Award

Friday, 18 January 2013

My thanks to Sue Howe over at the long and the short of it, for giving me the Very Inspiring Blogger Award. I'm not really sure how inspiring I am, but it's great Sue thinks so...

So, I have to provide seven facts about myself and then pass on the baton to seven others. Here we go. To make it more interesting, one of these seven facts is a complete lie. Can you tell which?

  1. As a spelling and grammar fascist, I'm an active member of the Apostrophe Liberation League. We don balaclavas and roam the streets looking for inappropriately-used punctuation marks on signs and notices. Not just apostrophes, you understand. Commas, colons, anything. I know, I know, we really should change the society's name.
  2. My surname (Kewin) is the Manx equivalent of "Johnson", which happens to be my wife's surname.
  3. I've been a vegetarian for 25 years. I once tried to explain to a waiter in France why I didn't want ham in my food, and he asked me whether it would be OK if they just chopped the meat up really small.
  4. I think Star Trek is better than Star Wars. I mean, it just is.
  5. I love roller-coasters. The faster/taller/loopier the better.
  6. I get really quite cross about the fact that we in the UK have an unelected head of state. It's embarassingly feudal...
  7. I can't decide if The Beatles or The Smiths are the greatest band ever in the history of the world ever.

And here are the seven inspring bloggers I'd like to pass the award on to. There were so many others I could have chosen...

  1. In Medias Res - the blog of Milo James Fowler, Speculative Fictioneer and fellow W1S1 dude.
  2. Deborah Walker - Deborah is basically a speculative fiction writing machine so far as I can tell.
  3. Musings of a Penniless Writer - Donna Hosie is such a prolific and talented writer/blogger. Seriously, go read her Hobbit Screenplay Reveal. As I believe one says, LOL.
  4. The Shellshank Redemption - I love Madeline Mora-Summonte's Motivational Monday posts. Tons of other useful and interesting stuff here, too.
  5. Thomas Taylor - Thomas is a damn fine writer AND illustrator. Which is just not fair to those of us trying to be good at just one of those things...
  6. Write1Sub1 - actually a collection of bloggers of course, but meh. An invaluable spur to regular short-fiction writing.
  7. the long and the short of it. Sue is an inspiration, and I quite like the idea of creating a blog award loop to see what happens. Hopefully the blogosphere won't implode...

  1. Simon, thank you so much! It means a lot to know people - other than myself! - get something out of and enjoy those Monday posts. :)

Number 3 made me laugh out loud, and I'm with you about the loopy roller coasters, not so much on the high ones. That first plunge about kills me every time!

  2. Madeline,

Thanks; I love those posts of yours. Glad you found my list amusing.

  3. Cheers, Simon!

I think number three is a total lie! Admit it, you hunt down your meat and eat it raw from the bone!

    Or maybe not.

  4. Congratulations on the award! :)

Hmm . . . I'm guessing the roller-coaster fact is the lie. I'm really, really hoping it isn't the first one because an organization that goes after incorrect punctuation would be awesome.

  5. Oh no, a loop! Save us all, lol. See, I'm trying not to use an apostrophe - oops. Well, perhaps you can forgive my misuse, if any.

This was fun to read Simon.

  6. Donna - OK, I admit it. No, wait, the vegetarian thing is true.

Golden Eagle - Thanks! But not that one either, I'm afraid. I love roller-coasters.

Donna - Glad you enjoyed it. Your grammar looks perfect to me...

  7. I hate having to decide which one is a lie because when I read them I thought they were all true.

Maybe the surname isn't true? I don't know! Help!

  8. fairyhedgehog - Thanks for dropping by! Nope, I'm afraid the surname thing is true.

  9. I'd say #1 is a complete falsehood -- could there be such a league? I was a vegetarian for over 20 years, and I still don't eat red meat; but I do enjoy chicken, turkey, and some fish nowadays. Thanks for the tag, Amigo!

  10. Milo - rumbled! You're correct. As fas as I know there is no such league. But there should be...

  11. Cate - you're right; it should. Maybe I should start such a League...

  12. You bugger, Simon! I can't imagine there are another seven moderately interesting things to say about myself, but I liked yours. However, you did miss off the MOST interesting thing about yourself, which is that you live 50 yards away from ME!

  13. Sue - Heh, good point. That obviously should have been number 1 on my list.

  14. Oooh I missed this. How could I? Thanks Simon. And you're right. I'm a machine and I love it!

  15. Deborah,

Excellent. You're not *literally* a machine, right? Not some sort of story-telling cyborg from the future?

I'd love to know what you think.
