Zombie Podcast

Sunday, 9 September 2012

My short story Bones are Rising to the Surface has just been reproduced as a Podcast over at Dark Fiction magazine.

The story is read beautifully by Marty Perrett. It's a weird and wonderful thing to hear someone else dramatizing your own words. Strange how the story sounds as though it's no longer completely mine; as though it has acquired this whole new life. I like it a lot.

Meanwhile, you may be thinking this is the artwork accompanying the story. Actually, I'm just emerging from a migraine and this is a self-portrait. It's true, I tell you...

  1. Wow, Simon -- very cool! And a spot-on description of hearing your own work read by someone else.

  3. Wow! Congrats! That has to be the strangest but at the same time the coolest feeling hearing your words read by someone else. I'm going to have to check it out. (:

  6. Excellent, Simon! And I agree re the description of hearing someone read your words. It feels so "other." But in a good way. :)

  10. That was brilliant, Simon. Congratulations.

I know what you mean about having your work read aloud. I had a short piece from my horror-novel-in-progress, The Devil's Song, made into video. It was inspiring to hear and see. The only problem I had was that the name of the MC is pronounced differently in the US to the UK. I didn't know that until I heard it!

  11. Thanks, Ellie. I guess that's what I mean about a story acquiring a life of its own. People pronounce things differently, understand things differently etc. It's no longer entirely what you had in mind. As I say, I rather like that.

  12. Congrats, Simon. I never considered how zombies might feel or not feel. Is there a sequel coming when the protag reunites with his significant other?
