Anthology Update - Artwork Comments?

Tuesday, 6 December 2011

I haven't mentioned the short story anthologies I've been working on much of late. A brief recap : I've decided to collect together all the stuff I've had published over the past decade or so into four volumes :

  • Spell Circles - fantasy
  • Eccentric Orbits - SF
  • Life Cycles - mainstream
  • Perfect Circles - everything in one volume

I've just about finished editing and converting the first volume - Spell Circles - and I've started to think about art work. I want each volume to have a prominent circle of some sort to make it look like they vaguely belong together. Here's what I've come up with after about fifteen minutes of downloading and hacking :

What do you think?  Is it eye-catching? Does it say "exciting fantasy read" at all? Amateurish? Love to know what you think.

  1. I look at it and think "witches" and "dark magic" and "evil spells" oh my!! I say triple gold star for the artwork!! Well done you!

    Take care

  2. Simon: I think it looks great. Really professional job. I'd like to see your title in a bit thicker font, perhaps bold, but not overdoing it. Simple is better and what you've got now is lovely.

Let me know when it comes out so I can purchase it. :)

Excellent! Although there are a few laughs in there too ...

  4. Thanks, Stephanie. I'm encouraged. I may go for an upper case title to make it stand out a bit more.

  5. The picture is nice, typography not so. If you want to send me the pic I'll see what I can come up with.

You're so right - that's the bit I did. I'll send you the raw picture, thanks.

  7. Looks good, Simon. From the image I would expect it to be full of dark fantasy, pagan stories, maybe even satanic stories.

  8. Thanks, Deborah. Now I'm wondering if it's a bit too dark fantasy ...

  9. I've got to ask: WHERE did you find this cool image? It looks great! Maybe give your name a little more head room at the bottom and make the title font a little more whimsical, but me likey as-is.

  10. Milo,

I downloaded it from http://www.dreamstime.com and then, obviously, slapped my letters on top of it ...

  15. I'm a bit late to the party, but just wanted to join the chorus and say, 'i like the image.'

Are these going to be electronic anthos? If so, you probably want your name much bigger than it is on the cover, otherwise peeps browsing the e-stores will have a hard time making out your name.
