Mirror Dance are going to reprint fantasy flash The Good King in their Winter 2011 edition. Regular readers may recall this story from last Christmas, when a version appeared on this blog. It's the true story of Good King Wenceslas, I tell you ...
Following on from my appearance as Featured Poet in Scifaikuest this month, the magazine has bought five more haiku for appearance in subsequent issues. Actually, one of them is a "horrorku". Who knew there was such a thing?
And last, but by no means least, the wonderful Trapeze has accepted another fantasy Twitter tale, The Summoning.
Ah, if only every week was like this ...
Aha!! I do so remember your dark twisted take on the King Wenceslas story ! Hooorah!!! Evil man!! :-)
ReplyDeleteWell done you - what a great writerly week for you!! Take care
x
Congratulations on the week! That's awesome.
ReplyDeleteAwesome news Simon. Congrats :)
ReplyDeleteI odered Kaleidotrope #13 and read your story.
I liked Daniel; even when he was older and cynical. I liked how faerie and contemporary worlds were tied together; how Daniel's moods and success directly related to the amount of magic in the world.
There was so much optimism in this writing; a glint of magical mystery. An excellent showing of how we all need a little hope in our lives.
Daniel was a strong, believeable character, and his story progressed well through the fairy sightings. Just enough backstory and summary to make the time jumps smooth. And the ending was perfect; totally satisfying - even for a gal who doesn't normally like happy endings :)
A good story. I can see why you're so successful with your submissions.

Old Kitty! For all I know he was a good sort really - I just thought it would be fun to write a story based on political spin. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Golden Eagle. Yes, been a good week for sure.
ReplyDeleteDonna,
ReplyDeleteWow - that has to be the longest, most considered and kindest comment I've ever had! Delighted you enjoyed the story. Seems to me you really "got" the story and what I was trying to do with it. Many, many thanks.
Way to go, Simon! I hope to join you one of these days, but so far I haven't been able to graduate beyond Electric Spec's shortlists.
ReplyDeleteOnly a matter of time, Milo ...
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, Simon. What a wonderful week.
ReplyDeleteI certainly did know that horrorku existed. What about steamku (steampunk-ku)? That's my latest innovation.
Looks like we're going to be TOC buddies in Mirror Dance-- excellent.
Deborah - great stuff! I'm delighted to me a TOC buddy. Steamku though - wow, now you've got me thinking ...
ReplyDeleteThere are good weeks, there are great weeks, and there are Simon Kewin-esque weeks. Sheesh!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on all the success, friend. Can't wait to read you in ES!
Joe,
ReplyDeleteYeah, but I didn't mention any of the rejections I had ...
Wow, Simon! Excellent work.
ReplyDeleteAnd I knew about horrorku because I wrote one. :)
Thanks, Madeline. I wonder if there are other sorts of poem I should know about?
