Hedge Witch Edits Completed!

Tuesday, 24 May 2011

So I've finished working on the new draft of YA fantasy novel Hedge Witch. The new version is leaner, meaner and cleaner. One character has vanished permanently, as have 7000 words or so (many of them "was"). It was daunting at times, but I actually found I enjoyed the process a lot. The strange thing is I thought the book was finished before, but I like the new version even more. Is it possible for that process to go on indefinitely?

Anyway, the interested publisher has the new version. Please cross fingers, toes, tentacles or whatever appendages you happen to have evolved with ...

Meanwhile, apologies for not being around much on the blogs of late. Normal service will be resumed as soon as possible ...

  1. Congratulations and whoop, whoop! You've done it. Personally, I love the editing stage and I'm quite jealous I haven't got to mine yet.

  6. Marvellous, I'm keeping my appendicles taut for you.

Funny you should say that about cutting 7K from your work. I can appreciate that. I think that is the fascinating thing about story, that it can go from tweet to drabble to micro and beyond. And I often play around with length. It's fascinating.

And someone astute once said, 'A work of art is never finished, merely abandoned.'

    Debs,

You're right, and that quotation was buzzing around in my head a lot as I worked!

  8. Well done, Simon. You must have found a way to get extra hours into the day. Leaner and cleaner is good. As I'm relatively normal, fingers crossed!

  10. I'm not really here -- I'm in transit in a cardboard box. However, I still have room to cross everything for you. Go, Hedge Witch!

I think we should build a place where discarded characters can go to chew on their ire and plot revenge. What a fascinating place that would be!

    now, back in my box...
