Five SF Haiku Sold

Writing is a wonderful voyage of discovery isn it not? A week ago today I learned of Scifaikuest magazine, who specialise in scifaiku (and parallel poetic forms) - i.e. poems in haiku form but with an SF theme. Thanks to Deborah Walker for the introduction via one of her weekly Write1Sub1 check-in posts. I was dimly aware such things existed but had never written any. But as an SF-lover and occasional poet I was keen to try ...

Just a few days later I learned all five I'd submitted have been accepted. Editor Teri Santitoro kindly replied saying :

I am going to do something I don't think I've ever done with a first time submission: I would like to accept ALL of these for our Featured Poet spot in the NOVEMBER 2011 print issue. I would be delighted to feature this wonder group of poems. They are all thoughtful and exactly the kind of scifaiku that I like to receive.

So that's good. Perhaps I should have been penning haiku all along. I must admit I had doubts mine were any good. I think there's a lesson there : if you come across something new you want to try, ignore any self-doubts and just have a go. You might surprise yourself.
