Writing is a wonderful voyage of discovery isn it not? A week ago today I learned of Scifaikuest magazine, who specialise in scifaiku (and parallel poetic forms) - i.e. poems in haiku form but with an SF theme. Thanks to Deborah Walker for the introduction via one of her weekly Write1Sub1 check-in posts. I was dimly aware such things existed but had never written any. But as an SF-lover and occasional poet I was keen to try ...
Just a few days later I learned all five I'd submitted have been accepted. Editor Teri Santitoro kindly replied saying :
I am going to do something I don't think I've ever done with a first time submission: I would like to accept ALL of these for our Featured Poet spot in the NOVEMBER 2011 print issue. I would be delighted to feature this wonder group of poems. They are all thoughtful and exactly the kind of scifaiku that I like to receive.
So that's good. Perhaps I should have been penning haiku all along. I must admit I had doubts mine were any good. I think there's a lesson there : if you come across something new you want to try, ignore any self-doubts and just have a go. You might surprise yourself.
Featured poet? That's incredible. Congratulations, Simon.
ReplyDeleteScifaikuest is a great publication.
Deborah,
ReplyDeleteI know, I'm still kind of in shock. But grateful to you for introducing them to me.
Dude!!! You totally rock. Not only have you conquered a new field, you dominated it. Wow!
ReplyDeleteHmmmm. Surely all this would make an agent sit up and take notice....and Hedge Witch could get published.
I made a comment somewhere before that I'm thinking readers should write and demand a closer look at some unpublished works. What do you think?
Congratulations!
That's fantastic. I look forwrad to the edition!
ReplyDeleteWords Crafter,
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Yes, Fair to say I was pretty pleased. And, yes, it would be good to think that successes like this help bring you to the attention of readers/agents/publishers.
I think it's a fantastic idea!
Thanks Reb, I'll let you know when it's out.
ReplyDeleteI too was screaming "where are your haikus, they're not there - where are they?!?!" LOL!! Yes please do tell us when they're printed! I do so love haikus!!
ReplyDeleteCONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!
Take care

Old Kitty,
ReplyDeleteI most certainly will. Many thanks.
Lesson learned. Nicely done, sir! Will you be able to post any here on your site for us to read, or did they purchase electronic rights as well?
ReplyDeleteMilo - and that's a very good question. Unprofessional of me but I don't know! The GL don't say. If I can I will.
ReplyDeleteGreat news! Well done!
ReplyDeleteThanks fairyhedgehog!
ReplyDeleteThat's great news! Congratulations!!
ReplyDeleteThanks again Golden Eagle!
ReplyDeleteYou really are getting to be the king of all short literary forms, aren't you? You've found your strength and you keep building on it--something we should all emulate. Congrats!
ReplyDeleteAnne,
ReplyDeleteThanks, and yes it is going well with the shorter pieces. Still keen to become king of the longer forms too though!
Yea Simon!!! That's pretty awesome stuff!!!
